Holographic Himalaya

Project Overview
– Brief motivation for the project.
There are many enthusiastic students of Physics in Nepal, who want to pursue fundamental and theoretical Physics. Even though theoretical physics is financially less expensive than experimental ones, there has not been a proper environment inside
the country for doing this. This is due to a lack of opportunity, resources, and appropriate guidance. We want to address this issue by providing a research opportunity for interested bachelor’s and master’s students. Our long-term goal is to establish Nepal as a country that can significantly contribute to theoretical and fundamental physics.

– Summary of what you want to do and what you want to achieve.
The project will primarily be a research journal club on “Quantum Information of Space-time and Matter” which will run for 6 months with a target of 15 bachelor’s and master’s students. Additionally, students will be divided into groups and assigned a specific topic and well-defined research problem. If the university and college collaborate, it may turn into a master’s thesis or bachelor’s project. It will be a hybrid program, with weekly virtual sessions and monthly on-site sessions. Due to the project’s multidisciplinary nature, students will have the opportunity to explore state-of-the-art research in various fields of
theoretical physics.

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, e.g. in terms of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation/identity, and social, ethnic, and religious origin.

Possible topics:
● Black hole Information Paradox
● Entanglement entropy and Complexity in quantum field theories
● Information scrambling and thermalization in many body systems and black holes
● Exploring Quantum effects during the early universe
● Simulating Holographic protocols of AdS/CFT in Cloud Quantum Computers
● Researching tabletop quantum gravity experiments

Goals and deliverables
● Creating a vibrant journal club of Information theory inspired fundamental physics
● Promote research of quantum gravity, high energy physics, and cosmology in Nepal
● Since each project will involve ideas from quantum information, participants will also become acquainted with the emerging field of quantum computing
● Tutorials of software like Mathematica, Python, Latex, and Qiskit
● Possibility of converting projects into master thesis or bachelor project
● Career and opportunities sessions will be organized, and top students will be mentored
● Lobbying the government to grow a research team

Deliverables & impact of the project
Our hope is to encourage students to the emerging field of quantum information theory-inspired fundamental physics. At the end of the program, students will present their topic and research problems they have worked on. Furthermore, career and opportunities sessions will be organized, and top students will be mentored for further studies.

Evaluation
– We will evaluate the project based on the participation of the students, the number of
virtual and on-site meeting sessions and presentations by students at the end of the projects
– Feedback and testimonials of the students.
